Mac OS X 10.4 compatibility notes

EtherShare 3.1 can be used from a Mac OS X 10.4 client.
Mac OS X 10.4 is currently not supported as server platform for the HELIOS Services (EtherShare 3.1, PCShare 3.1, WebShare 1.0, ImageServer 2.5, PDF HandShake 2.1, and PrintPreview 2.0).
The upcoming HELIOS UB release will add full support for Mac OS X 10.4 as server platform.

Known issues for Mac OS X 10.4 clients:

  • The HELIOS TCP/IP printer drivers for Mac OS X are not compatible with Mac OS X 10.4. This will be solved in the upcoming HELIOS UB release.
  • Copying to a volume may fail using “AFP 3.1 preview-11 for EtherShare 3.1”
When the local user name/user id is the same as the server user name/user id and a file is copied to a server volume, the copy may fail with a permissions error. This error does occur only when UNIX permissions are disabled (which is the default) and the user is not owner of the parent directory. The cause is currently investigated.
If you encounter this problem, you can enable UNIX permissions as described in paragraph “3. AFP 3.1 and UNIX Permissions” of the “AFP 3.1 preview” description.
When new information is available, this will be distributed by a follow up to this Tech Info.
