Subject

Windows USB dongle driver could stall

Info

Updates u0608 + u0609 fix a problem in the Windows USB driver
for the HELIOS machine ID dongle that sometimes caused all
HELIOS processes to stall.

After installing update u0608 and u0609 do the following to
install the updated USB driver.

Win2003/XP:

- Open the Windows "Device Manager" (Control Panel > System,
select Hardware tab, click on Device Manager).
- Right-click on "HELIOS MachID USB driver", select "Update Driver...".
- Windows opens the "Hardware Update Wizard".
Select "No, not this time" and continue with "Next >".
- Select "Install from a list or specific location" and continue
with "Next >".
- Select "Include this location in the search:", enter the
path "HELIOSDIR\etc\usbdriver", and continue
with "Next >". (HELIOSDIR is your HELIOS installation directory,
e.g. "C:\Program Files\Helios".)
- A warning appears that the driver is not digitally signed.
Continue with "Yes".
- Click "Finish".
- Verify that the driver is really loaded, see below.

Win2000 (AS)

- Open the Windows "Device Manager" (Control Panel > System,
select Hardware tab, click on Device Manager).
- Double-click on "HELIOS MachID USB driver", select "Update Driver..."
from the "Driver" tab.
- Click "Next >"
- Choose "Display a list of the known drivers for this device" and
click "Next >"
- Click "Have Disk..." and select the "helusb.inf" file from
"HELIOSDIR\etc\usbdriver" and confirm with "OK" twice. (HELIOSDIR is
your HELIOS installation directory, e.g. "C:\Program Files\Helios".)
- Select the HELIOS MachID Driver from the list and click "Next >" twice.
- Click "Finish".
- Verify that the driver is really loaded.

To verify that new driver is really active
- Open the Windows "Device Manager" (Control Panel > System,
select Hardware tab, click on Device Manager).
- Double-click on "HELIOS MachID USB driver"
- Activate "Driver" tab.

The driver version should be 0.1.0.0. If the version is wrong, uninstall
the HELIOS USB dongle driver, reboot and install it again as outlined above.
