OS X 10.9 client compatibility with HELIOS UB2

Mac OS X 10.9 (aka Mavericks) is fully compatible to be used as a client connected to a HELIOS UB2 server. We tested the pre-release version of OS X 10.9 (update 8) and the following components have successfully been tested:

  • EtherShare AFP Server
  • Spotlight search
  • HELIOS Admin
  • HELIOS Bonjour printer drivers
  • OPI Touch
  • WebShare Manager file sychronization
  • Bonjour server neighborhood
  • Safari as a WebShare client
  • HELIOS Meta – Finder plug-in for setting file comments
  • AFP volume passwords
  • Time Machine backup to a AFP server volume

So far, only AFP messages which can be sent to clients are not working. According to Apple, OS X 10.9 has no support for such messages anymore.

Please note: Mac OS X 10.9 supports SMB, SMB2, NFS, and AFP to connect server volumes. For full compatibility it is required to connect to the server via the AFP protocol. HELIOS works on future SMB2 support, however for OS X 10.9 AFP is the only supported protocol that provides the best performance and full compatibility. See our article for details:
