HELIOS adds support for Xen virtualized servers

HELIOS UB2 server solutions running within a VM are flexible, highly available, and easy to transfer, enabling server consolidation, energy savings, and isolation of services. The leading server virtualization solutions from VMware, Hyper-V and Xen are supported.

Hannover, Germany, November 22, 2011 – HELIOS Software GmbH, a leading developer of cross-platform file, print, image, proofing, remote collaboration, and PDF server software, announced today that Xen based virtual solutions are fully supported using the new HELIOS UB2 product generation. Server virtualization offers tremendous cost savings and allows complete independence from the underlying hardware. Virtualized servers offer a very cost effective and flexible solution to isolate server applications from different vendors, and to enable each to run within their optimal operating system environment.

HELIOS products are widely known for their broad support of major operating systems and hardware platforms, to serve Windows, Mac and remote Web clients. The new Xen support as well as the existing VMware and Hyper-V support of HELIOS UB2 server software allows customers to choose between all major virtual machine (VM) solutions.

HELIOS UB2 server solutions do not require any special underlying hardware and no USB machine identification. This allows easy migration of VMs between servers and offers perfect support for high availability solutions. The performance of a HELIOS UB2 virtual machine comes close to the performance of running on native hardware.

Helmut Tschemernjak, president of HELIOS Software, explains, “We see a clear trend that many server sites are looking into deployment of virtual servers. The new x86-64 based servers offer many times more performance compared to servers from a few years ago.” He continues, “with the new Xen virtual server support, all major VM server solutions are supported by the HELIOS UB2 software”.

Starting today customers with a Software Upgrade Service agreement can download the required updates for HELIOS UB2 to receive Xen support. The VMware and Hyper-V support is already included in HELIOS UB2. Further details on HELIOS server virtualization can be found at http://www.helios.de/web/EN/news/server_virtualization.html
