Java installation on OS X

HELIOS uses Java for several applications but starting with OS X 10.7 Apple does no longer include Java in the OS. Still, a download from Apple can be used to get Java on OS X 10.7, 10.8, 10.9, 10.10, 10.11, and 10.12.

  1. Install Java via Terminal
    Use the following command in Terminal to force a Java installation:
    /usr/libexec/java_home -R
     
  2. On a Mac where the HELIOS services are installed (“Server”)
    After the installation of the HELIOS services HELIOS Admin is pre-installed in the “Applications” folder. Open HELIOS Admin to trigger a Java download (see figure below).
     
  3. On a Mac where the HELIOS services are not installed (“Client”)
    Mount the “HELIOS Applications” volume from the HELIOS server and open MacOS > HELIOS Admin to trigger a Java download (see figure below).
