HELIOS Virtual Server Appliance 1.0 security updates

The HELIOS Virtual Server Appliance is based on Debian Linux 6 (Squeeze). Since when the VSA was first released, Debian updated the software repositories and introduced a Long Term Support (LTS) version.

To get the latest Debian security updates, including an important recent NTP daemon update, you need to switch to the LTS version using the following steps:

Replace the contents of “/etc/apt/sources.list” with the following lines:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

deb http://http.debian.net/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free
deb-src http://http.debian.net/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free

deb http://http.debian.net/debian squeeze-lts main contrib non-free
deb-src http://http.debian.net/debian squeeze-lts main contrib non-free

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can remove any old lines, since the above repositories will contain both the old packages and the LTS packages/updates.

To update your system, issue the following commands:

# apt-get update
# apt-get upgrade

When asked to upgrade the listed packages, choose y.

If kernel or kernel related packages are upgraded, a subsequent reboot is recommended.
