A 3 Using PDF HandShake with ColorSync 2 XT 2.1
Note: The HELIOS ColorSync 2 XT for QuarkXPress is available as a free download from the HELIOS web site. It is compatible only with QuarkXPress 3.3.x
Using PDF HandShake with ColorSync 2 XT for QuarkXPress also requires HELIOS ImageServer. With all these programs, you can use our ColorSync 2 XT software for monitor "soft-proofs" of PDF documents.
With ImageServer
and PDF HandShake you can generate EPSF layout files from PDF originals that contain several images
and different color spaces. The resulting EPSF layouts can then be placed in a QuarkXPress document where our ColorSync 2 XT software allows you to simulate the color output results of the final press on your monitor. Fig.

ImageServer, together with PDF HandShake, generates an EPSF layout of a PDF original. The screen preview of the EPSF file is already matched to EBU-RGB, which is the default RGB profile. The ColorSync 2 XT software then transforms EBU-RGB into the monitor's RGB by using the current monitor profile.
The "locked" symbol in the
ColorSync 2 dialog indicates that you cannot define an image profile for the imported EPSF layout. The colors of the layout file have already been matched by the OPI server according to the profile information of the PDF high-res file.
Note: The large number of color transformation processes leads to a slight loss in quality as far as the monitor display of PDF documents is concerned. Especially for CMYK images in PDF documents, the printing results will be better than the "soft-proofs" on the monitor.

Important: The EPSF functionality of ColorSync 2 XT is only available for EPSF layout files that have been generated from a PDF document via ImageServer. EPSF files coming from a different creator, are not supported!
