Welcome to EtherShare OPI 2.1
Thank you for purchasing HELIOS EtherShare OPI 2.1.
The idea
behind it
HELIOS EtherShare OPI (Open Prepress Interface) is a very powerful image replacement and enhancement software that has been set up for the HELIOS UNIX-Apple Macintosh networking software EtherShare. The main purposes of EtherShare OPI 2.1 are to speed up print jobs that contain huge image data, to match colors of different image files and thereby obtain predictable color results on any given printer, and to handle image data on a server in a way that keeps memory requirements of Macintosh clients as well as network traffic at a minimum.
EtherShare OPI perfectly works together with PCShare, the HELIOS software product for UNIX-Windows networks. With PCShare, you can add PCs to your UNIX-Apple Macintosh network and make OPI available to Windows applications.
Course of
development
Our EtherShare 2.1 comes up with radical improvements compared to EtherShare OPI 1.2. It supports much more image file formats than the previous version and - what is even more exciting - it includes color matching which is based on standardized ICC profiles. Furthermore, it provides a so-called "OpenImage" extension architecture that allows other parties to develop additional plug-ins for the EtherShare OPI server.
Contents of the software
package
The EtherShare OPI 2.1 software package includes an ISO 9660 CD-ROM, a software manual, and an "Activation Key Request" form that serves to request the individual key (kind of password) you need to license and run the product.
License
information
For using EtherShare OPI 2.1 without restrictions, you need a full EtherShare 2.6 license. If your EtherShare software is running in demo mode you cannot fully license EtherShare OPI and have to use it in demo mode as well. Furthermore, you need an EtherShare OPI software activation key which has to be entered during the server installation process. Without this activation key, the software will run in demo mode only. Then the following restrictions apply to these programs:
The generation of your key is based on the serial number of your EtherShare base product and the serial number of your EtherShare OPI copy. Please keep in mind that - in case you have several EtherShare licenses - you should make a long-term decision about which license you want to use with EtherShare OPI. All "expansions" always remain bound to the original base product, meaning that if you want to transfer EtherShare OPI to another UNIX server later (which is allowed under certain conditions) you have to transfer the EtherShare base product as well.
What you have to do
We enclose to our software package an "Activation Key Request" form that has to be used for obtaining the key.
The form already contains your 8-digit OPI serial number. You have to add your ("Enduser") name and address, and the serial number of your EtherShare 2.6 base product.
Fax or mail the "Activation Key Request" form to HELIOS Software GmbH, Steinriede 3, 30827 Garbsen, Germany, Fax: +49 5131 709325.
Please note that
What you will get in return
On receipt of your request form we will generate your individual activation key and then send you an "Activation Key Reply" summarizing the data you need for software activation, namely:
