A 2: Files in the EtherShare
directory

The following directory listing shows all files created in the "$ESDIR" file system after installation.

The "$ESDIR" directory contains the "install" program (which uses "machid"), the AppleTalk protocol stack ("atalkd"), all server programs ("afpsrv", "afppasswd", "papsrv", "psof", "papif", "psif", "diskif", "balanceif", "shmif", "holdif", "tcpif", "termsrv", "timesrv", "lpd", "mailsrv", "admsrv", "desksrv", etc.), the "pstext" program with its configuration file, printer and server accounting files, a README file, and some user utility and test programs ("atechoping", "rebuild", "dt", "start-atalk", "stop-atalk", "poll", "vpoll", "swho" (which uses "stmp"), "netconf", and "zones").

The "$ESDIR/etc" directory contains a script to mount/unmount removable volumes ("mount-afp"), two scripts used by the EtherShare Admin to update Yellow Pages information ("yp-update") and to restart the "papsrv" ("restart-pap"), some internal utility programs ("forall" , "mkafppasswd"), the "uninstall" script and sub-programs, templates for the "install" program, and sample files.

The "conf" directory contains the following EtherShare configuration files: the public volumes list ("afpvolumes"), the optional AFP user list ("afppasswd"), the main configuration file ("atalk.conf"), the mail program address book ("addressbook"), the licensing file "ethershare.license", the extension mappings file "suffixes", the EtherShare servers list "servers", and the IP-access list "afpipaccess".

The "dicts" directory contains corrected Apple dictionaries, the HELIOS dictionaries, and the dictionary for the "Linotype color separation" process.

The "kernel" directory contains UNIX drivers (AppleTalk etc.) for various machine and interface types.

The "macapps" directory (the Macintosh volume "EtherShare Applications") contains the Macintosh applications "EtherShare Admin", "Helios Terminal",
"Helios Mail", and the "EtherShare Client Installer"
as well as the "Admin Plug-Ins" directory (containing the Japanese localization plug-in for the EtherShare Admin), and the "Time Server".

Macintosh files are stored on the host in two parts - the data file and the resource file. The latter is stored in the resource directory. In the case of Macintosh applications (as distinct from documents), the program code is stored in the resource file only, and the data file will have zero length.

The "macapps/Helios Terminal" directory ("Helios Terminal" folder on the "EtherShare Applications" volume) contains "Helios Terminal", tools, drivers and utilities needed by the toolbox, and a README file.

The "macapps/Helios Mail" directory ("Helios Mail" folder on the "EtherShare Applications" volume) contains the Macintosh program "Helios Mail", the mail notification program "Helios Mail Init", and a README file.

The "macapps/Unsupported" directory ("Unsupported" folder on the "EtherShare Applications" volume) contains the "HELIOS LanTest" and an "About LanTest" file.

The "macapps/Time Server" directory ("Time Server" folder on the "EtherShare Applications" volume) contains the "Time Server" and a README file.

The "psfonts" directory (initially empty) is used to store the Print Server's download PostScript fonts.

The actual listings depend on the machine type and may vary slightly. For space reasons, the columns "owner" and "group" were omitted in this manual. However, if you call up a directory listing (ls -lR) in your EtherShare directory those two columns are part of the list, of course.
