1. World of HELIOS: drupa 2008 and Apple WWDC
The last several weeks have been pretty exciting. First HELIOS presented at drupa the "Future of DTP" to almost one thousand customers and prospects, who fell in love with our new "Drag & Drop" remote DTP workflow. The week after, at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, similar enthusiasm greeted Apple's news about Mac OS X Snow Leopard and the new 3G iPhone. The excitement continued during the many emotional games of the UEFA Euro 2008, which Spain won, with Germany second. We would like to say thank you to everyone for being part of this great news.

2. WWDC: AppleTalk-PAP printing end of life
Everyone is using TCP/IP based network services, like Web browsing and e-mail. Apple AFP and Windows SMB file sharing migrated to TCP/IP more than a decade ago. Now Windows Server 2008 and Mac OS X Snow Leopard have removed AppleTalk altogether from the OS. This may affect some customers who still use AppleTalk-PAP for printing. Make sure you have installed HELIOS UB+, which includes TCP printer drivers and easy Bonjour printer browsing, with automatic synchronization of PPDs from the server to the client. Goodbye AppleTalk, you served us for two decades, thank you, we will not miss you.

3. drupa: HD Color updates available
During drupa 2008 we presented for the first time continuous 16-bit per channel color support for image re-purposing operations such as image format conversion, rescaling, and ICC color space transforms. Support includes batch tools, hot folder conversion, and PostScript or PDF-native OPI image replacement. More information can be found in a Flash presentation at www.helios.de as well as in the HD Color press release at: www.helios.de/news/news08/N_03_08.phtml.

Customers can download and install this new feature set as part of their Software Upgrade Service agreement.

4. drupa: PDF-native OPI now with PDF ad support
At drupa 2008 we presented a major enhancement for PDF-native OPI image replacement. Until now we replaced bitmap images within an InDesign exported PDF document. Now we added support so that placed low-res references of PDFs are getting replaced as well. The PDF-based OPI image replacement offers enormous time savings and makes remote page composition productive and practical.

Customers can download and install this new feature as part of their Software Upgrade Service agreement.
